Midlands based detailers Smart Valeting get most of their business by referral from delighted customers, but even they were slightly taken aback by their latest commission; A plane!

Their keen attention to detail and quest for perfection impressed one new road-car client so much, he immediately asked them to turn their attentions to his other mode of transport, his 2008 CZAW Sport Cruiser light aircraft. After talking to the manufacturers to discuss the best methods of surface care, Derek Millington from the firm’s Nottingham branch spent a rewarding day at the client’s hangar, restoring the plane to an ‘as new’ condition.

After claying the surface, several levels of detailing, polishing and waxing were employed to ensure that not only was the end result pretty spectacular, but also retains a degree of protection for the aircraft’s forthcoming winter flights.

On finishing the job, Millington said. ‘We’ve already picked up another two orders from the same flying club. We only work to one quality, so I’m delighted that we can improve on the expectations of customers in this market place. We’re show-car detailers by trade, so maybe four wheeled customers expect more than their two-winged counterparts! If you strive for perfection, I believe there will always be work out there for you.’

The company’s new direction provides a welcome diversification in trying economic conditions for the industry as a whole, and certainly proves that first impressions really do last!
